For the design wallpaper “Pure Rust”, Architects Paper received the Interior Innovation Award 2011 in the discipline of wall coverings. The wallpaper, awarded the title “Best of Best”, combines innovation and traditional craftsmanship in a creative manner. The award was presented at the imm cologne, the leading international trade fair of the furniture industry, by the German Design Council.
The central design element is a living patina that produces sensually perceptible surfaces over a longer period. The sustainable and conscious use of products becomes intelligibly visible and subtly counteracts the trend of “replaceable decoration”. “Pure Rust” combines the longing for past eras in consensus with the ambience of the present. Thus the top-class jury of the Design Council substantiated its selection.
Pure Rust is a most unusual wall covering. In exclusively manual work, the non-woven fabric of the wallpaper is metallized in several laborious steps and then refined by oxidation. This produces noble patina in various temper colours. Unique pieces with a glossy look and cool feel are formed.
Due to the artificial oxidation process, after a while each original is subject to slight changes in colour. After application of our wallpapers, the individual lengths are visible. This is both a design element and the cachet of the goods produced by manual screen printing. Every single metre is manufactured by artistic handwork for each individual customer, thus there is only a limited annual production volume available.
